Assignment Five (۵) Wikis

For the fifth assignment, I'm gonna post a few wikis of topics that I like.

Lyric Wikia
This is a wiki I love since I'm into music and I DJ part time.  It's good for looking up lyrics some some of the music I play.  It's easy to look up lyrics by artist or song title.  You can also search by albums or even the record label.

Wiki News
This wiki is one where anyone can read and even post news, including news that the mainstream news media ignores.  I found some interesting stories there.

Transit Wiki
A wiki more geared to transit planners in the state of California, I do follow it since I work in the transit industry, including maintaining a website, and like to keep up what's going on with the different aspects of the industry.

Rappelz Wiki
Another one is for a MMO game me and a cousin used to play, called Rappelz.  The game features a medieval world setting with three classes battling monsters.  The big feature of the game is your avatar (or toon) can have a pet that helps you along the way.  The wiki for the game is below:

Assignment Four (۳) - All About RSS Feeds

For this post, we talk about RSS - Really Simple Syndication.

۱. RSS is used on many websites and blogs to provide updates directly to your RSS viewer or app without the need to visit the originating website.  I've known of RSS for some time and even used it on a former employer's website when I used to maintain the site for them.

۲. To locate the RSS feed on many website is looking for a little icon that looks little like a Wi-Fi symbol. Clicking on it will give you the URL to insert into your reader.  Some sites, like the one I use to maintain for my former employer, has it as just a link.  I did that to limit the amount of images on the site at the time when most people were still on dial-up.

۳. As I was playing around with the "Old Reader" I actually added several RSS feeds of several websites and blogs, many dealing with transit issues.  One of the transit blogs I followed is one that covers the New York area, http://www.transitblogger.com.

۴. What I like about the Old Reader is it's simple reader you can read from any computer or phone/tablet you're on without need of a dedicated app. It presents all your feed on the left sidebar which makes it easy to select the ones you want to read atm.  I used to have a dedicated RSS viewer on an old computer, but that thing was harder to use then OR.  OR can handle up to 100 RSS feeds, and a paid option for handle 200.

Assignment Three (۲) - Flicker Page

My thoughts about Flickr and my page

I have used the Flickr service long ago and it took me some time to figure out how to work it now.  Last time I did anything in it was back in the mid 2000s.  As for Flickr, I prefer the older version of it, as it was simpler to use. Now it seems to be geared to the tablet or smart phone user and takes some getting used to. I dropped a few work photos and Pics of Capitola in there.  The "۲" is Farsi for the number 3.

Kim's Class Blog and thensome!

Greetings!  As for assignment two for the Library 55 class, we're supposed to be making these little blogs and I'll take a shot at mine.

This is not the first time I've blogged.  I used to do one on one of my domains for some time about transit stuff since I've been a webmaster for a transit website for sometime.  After about a year, I closed it as some that were following decided to visit similar groups on Facebook, which I don't do.

Like the blog I had on my website, it's a simple thing to set up too.  It's a lot of fun to do too.  Some bloggers can get really fancy and put all kinds of images, colours, different text fonts, etc.  I still need to play with this one though.

Anyway that's about it for now!
